Our story
The Founder of Saluting of Veterans is Mrs. Leslie Ferguson. Some years ago, she wrote a song entitled “Soldier”. The actual lyric is “Soldier, I thank you”. This song thanks, honors and lets the veteran know that they are appreciated for the services they have provided to the citizens of this country. Leslie wrote the lyrics to this song while riding in the car on her way to Virginia to visit the Mother and Step Father. When Leslie sung the song for her mother, she asked Leslie, what made you write these beautiful lyrics? Leslie replied, I thought about my uncles and nephews’ who served in the military. She said, she could remember how her mother worried about her husband when he was deplored overseas. Then she said she thought about all those soldiers who did not make it back to their families, who lost best friends due to war efforts, and/or who came back depended on others for their care. She thought that their commitment to protect our country with their lives was deserving of not only a song, but also an annual celebration.
